The rules listed below apply to all our derby events with very minor adjustments for each event. We keep them posted so all the potential participants can be familiar with them well in advance.
1. Cost is $55 per person with advanced registration, you must be registered and pay ten (10) days prior to the derby (1 April 2010). Cost is $65 at the door.
2. Young hunters who have not completed the gun safety course may hunt with a legal guardian.
3. You should be present at the "Cottonwood Cabin" at least 15 minutes prior to your relay start time. Your relay start time will be set when you register. The assigned start time means that you know when your hunting time starts, so if you would like to show up early and practice shooting, feel free to do so. This also means that as soon as you finish your hunt you can leave the Range. However, if you would like to stick around and have a bite to eat, and drink some coffee it would be a great time to sit and visit.
4. You may have as many on your team as you chose, however 5 to 7 hunters with 2 dogs is ideal. If you are planning on being a single hunter, and want the hunting lane all to yourself, that will be ok also. Be sure to register early to ensure that you get the hunting day and time that you want to make the derby fit into your schedule.
5. Once assigned a lane you will be introduced to your guide. The guide will insure you get to and from your assigned lane.
6. Each registered has one chance to win the derby with additional chances to win with each bird shot.
7. The derby winner will be announced on the last day of the derby after the last relay of hunters have completed their hunt at the Cottonwood Cabin. You DO NOT need to be present when the winner of the derby is announced!! If you have any questions please call or email us.
8. Most important of all is the enjoyment of hunters coming together to share hunting stories. Hopefully we will create more memories on what we are sure will be a very memorable day. We feel this is a new type of event that will extend your hunting season in this area. The birds are plentiful and well fed, but probably not as anxious to participate in the event as we are.
9. Safety of course is everyones concern. The worst thing that could happen is for a fellow hunter to shoot someone. Although our safety concerns may seem extreme, we will do it in a manner not to interfere with the sport itself. Although you do not need a hunting license to shoot on the Range, we require a one on one supervised hunt for all hunters who have not attended a Hunter Safety Program if born after 1961. You must have proof of this certification in your possession at the time of the derby.
1. Certificate of Gun Safety Course if born after 1961 if you are a guardian to a noncertified hunter. 2. Orange vest and hat. 3. Shotgun 4. Ammo 5. Appropriate clothing for weather conditions expect -10F to +90F (this is North Dakota in April )
1. Shooting glasses 2. Hunting Dog (good dog preferred or For Sale sign for dog)
